The Mystery Blogger Award

I’ve always seen this mystery blogger post on so many blogs, I didn’t know I would actually get nominated! It was a bright and sunny day (no actually it wasn’t, we’re in the rainy season people) when I opened Uzzy Mamis latest post which piqued my interest. I read through it, smiled, and then saw that she had nominated me! How exciting! Let’s get down to it.

Mystery Blogger Award?

The Mystery Blogger Award is a concept by okotoenigma. Shout out to her for coming up with this idea! I hope that one day I can also come up with unique concepts! From what I’ve noted, it is a way to bring exposure to smaller blogs which may be unnoticed but have great content!

3 Things About Me

I’m a law student (ubi jus, ubi remedium – where there is a right, there is a remedy!) No, that doesn’t mean you should start looking for trouble!

I love clothes! I could spend hours looking at them & pictures of them (hence why I am a declared Pinterest addict. I don’t need deliverance …yet.

I’m a product junkie. I think I’m literally an ideal customer for any skincare/haircare brand. If I hear something is good at fixing a particular problem, I put it on my wish-list and would eventually get it. This is especially in relation to skin products as I have acne/pimples and have been trying to get rid of them since they moved into my face! So, those of you bloggers who write reviews, just write well + take good photos and I’m sold! I’m still very frugal though, so I won’t buy EVERYTHING, lol (cough, not immediately anyway).

PSST – Currently on my wish-list – witch hazel, rose water, aztec healing clay (see? skin product junkie!)

Uzzy’s Questions

What inspired you to start blogging?

I’ve always loved writing! I remember those days back in primary school where I would get in trouble because I always wrote stories, drew comics etc. and inspired my classmates to do so too. I’ve always had a strong love for art, which has only grown over the years. Writing is my best activity, it is a passion so dear to me. It was only natural that I would eventually get into blogging. I wanted to have  a platform for my thoughts to be expressed to the world! Previously I was using Wattpad with a strong dedication but I’m past that crazy phase, so I decided to start Mind of Amaka.

Do you get writers block?

Definitely! I remember when I used Wattpad I would hit a block and it was so annoying. Even though i’ve had Mind of Amaka for a little while, there’s been some moments where my well of creativity feels dry. I’ve had a lot of inspiration lately though, so fingers crossed that writers block won’t come again for a long time!

What motivates you to keep going?

The thought of becoming an actual brand and a recognisable name keeps me going. I really want to use this blog to grow my skills as I wish to become a well-known author. I want to work with several people and several platforms. So, to achieve those dreams, I must focus and be consistent!

At this point, I don’t think I’ll ever feel like completely deleting the blog. If I run into a rut, I’ll simply take a break. I should always come back, because I love writing.

Whats your biggest challenge so far?

I don’t know If this challenge relates to the blog or life in general, so I’m guessing it concerns blogging. So far, my biggest challenge would be .. consistency & photos. I need to have a more organised system, and need to try documenting events more so I can write more! So far though, things are looking up! As for photos, I have the equipment – my trusty phone/partner in crime, but I don’t really get much time to take photos. Effective planning would probably reduce this issue. It all comes down to being organised!

Whats your future plan for your blog?

I want my blog to be a platform where people can come to and feel at home. They should always be able to find good content, see words that apply to their situations in that moment. They should be able to laugh, cry, and most importantly – learn. Mind of Amaka shall be a hub for candid pieces, as well as beautifully crafted stories. I want to use my blog to bring to light several underlying societal issues as well as issues of life.

I want to be a strong name, known for my good content & pieces. I also want to work with all sorts of brands – probably only a tiny percent would be fashion because I’m not a fashion blogger – and get my name out there! I want to build strong relationships with my followers & also have strong connections with other bloggers, not just in Nigeria but all over!

On a final note, I have to nominate 10 blogs & give them questions! Here goes nothing:

  1. Why your current blog name/What made you choose your blog name?
  2. What is one thing that angers you quickly?
  3. Why did you start your blog?
  4. Would you rather have no phone or no computer?
  5. Do you think you could survive a war?

Nominees – This was challenging, as I’m sure many have done these posts. Oh well!

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. You have to nominate 10-20 people
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

  • Stumbled upon one of the cutest Abuja spots ever today! Too bad I was there for about half an hour and didn’t order anything - I loved every inch of it - from gate to interior decor, such as this lovely corner just at the entrance. I really need to go out more!

  • Sometimes I feel like throwing my camera away - other times I’m like maybe I can say I have the occasional eye for a good shot. I love this photo and the presence of green!

  • About 2 weeks ago I watched as Oby Ezekwesili declared her intent to run for presidency. It was really inspiring - i realized that I don't want anything to do with a man or family member who try to dim my ambitions because of my gender. Her husband sat next to her in an ever supporting manner. I honestly thought about how much you can thrive once you have an enabling environment- if you're constantly being told to lower your voice or standards or shy away from acquiring certain things (degrees, assets) so as not to lose your woman-ness and scare men away, how will you possibly dare to dream?! This woman has had people supporting her since day 1, from her father and family to her own family. Support is important!
Anyway it was really inspiring and I definitely wish her luck. The next question was whether Nigeria could have its first female president soon - I thought of #hilaryclinton and #donaldtrump and how I was rooting hard for her. I've always asked myself this question, because I don't know if Nigeria is ready to accept that it's head of state will be a woman. What do you think?
For the following people I think their chances are definitely an interesting thought:
• single man or woman
