Which MTV Shuga Naija Season Was the Best?
MTV Shuga Naija Season 6 came into our lives just over a few weeks ago, and yesterday, we all watched the finale we’d all been anticipating. Frankly, I believe the Shuga Season 6 finale episode was quite disappointing, and it’s led me to ask – which MTV Shuga Naija season was the best? But first, a recap.
After last week’s episode, we were all left with a series of thoughts and predictions as to what would go down in the final episode. I was filled with all sorts of theories which I shared here, and after watching the finale, I felt totally let down. A finale is meant to be pumped full of action, but unlike the previous MTV Shuga Naija seasons, this finale was a complete let down. Let’s see what happened, in a series of memes and recaps:
Tobi Gets His Ass Beat x2
I am sure we all enjoyed these scenes, and in honour of this, I have taken it upon myself to create GIFs of the glorious incidents.
I coined the above scene as a visual representation of when you make plans for your life and then life steps in. It’s just so hilarious! Anyway, Tobi and Bada were talking smack, but Khalil stepped in to give Tobi the beating that corrected his senses. Khalil was carried out, but the beating seemed to work, because Tobi gave Khalil the contact of a lady who had been sexually assaulted by Bada.
The second scene was where Tobi got his ass whooped again by Leila‘s Uncle. He deserves it and had it coming, treating the girl like crap, leaving her on her own when she had the pregnancy scare, and not even being there when she had the miscarriage. Let’s face it, Tobi has been an ass all season. He got beaten in the finale, and has now lost Leila but gained some grains of sense.
Faa Goes Public
We’re all rooting for Faa, and this finale disappointed me not just with Faa but with the other stories. Faa is basically dragged for reporting Bada and later gets to say her side of the story on a radio show. After she says the story, she is backed up by another victim of Bada who calls in. It’s empowering and all, but I am highly disappointed because that’s how it ends.
So Bada is still going to crawl around Lagos like some free ugly bird? How about we see him sentenced to jail! I guess in reality, these things are a lengthy process, no thanks to the slow litigation process in Nigeria and it’s flaws. There’s that, and the fact that in real life people like Bada get away with stuff like this because they can – they have fame and money. Therefore, any lady who speaks up would be viewed as a lying wench who arose from the pits of hell to destroy the reputation of the guy.
Diana’s Yansh is Opened
Diana didn’t get beat up as I’d have wanted, and I wasn’t as satisfied with the scene where Frances yells at her for being the cause of everything. I wish she’d been punished severely. We’re left with questions – what happened to the so-called Chike? What about the final exams? Why did Diana get away with so much? I was so mad. Diana should have been dealt with!
Corper Yasmin is in TroubleWhy was Ms. Olotu so flustered when she saw her son? Oh yeah - maybe it's because he looks everything like what she's been fighting against in the school - crazy hairstyle and dressing. Click To Tweet
Corper Yasmin of course gets into trouble, but I know as long as Norbert Young is the principal, Ms Olotu and the gates of hell will not prevail. I wish we could have seen more drama, but we were just left hanging. So Corper Yasmin got to continue with her show and gave inspiring talks – what happened after? Because it’s a finale, we’re left in the dark.
By the way, I’m sure we were all shook at the revelation that Khalil’s mother is Ms Olotu. Methinks the lady had Khalil out of wedlock and so she’s hiding behind this front of holiness. Also, why was she so flustered when she saw her son? Oh yeah – maybe it’s because he looks everything like what she’s been fighting against in the school – crazy hairstyles and dressing.
Princess and Her New Love Interest
This was a bit dry because first of all, who cares? Princess hasn’t even been on screen for quite a while now. Yeah Leila‘s brother appeared in the last episode, but we never really got a deeper look into him and his life. Anyway, Leila‘s brother and Princess reconcile and proceed to make out, but Princess stops and decides to come clean first. Boring! I mean, what has the role of Princess really been in this season? Someone like Sophie would have been a more awesome addition – no shade, Princess.
Ebisinde Gets Busted
As I predicted in the previous recap of episode 9, Ebisinde was going to end up arrested, seriously injured or dead. It seems he and his mates got arrested, but we didn’t actually see the arrest happen. It was only hinted at from the fact that 3 men, 2 of them in police attire, were approaching the car. Ebisinde was struggling to start the car through wire method.
Either way, I was disappointed. I’m no sadist, but I think he should have been injured or killed – sure, Shuga has been focused on safe sex and all that, but what of the fact that these boys are trying to get quick money at their detriment? If Ebisinde (or one of his friends – the afro guy for example) had ended up dead, Faa’s story would be sadder, and the school would be affected with yet another lesson to learn.

So, Which MTV Shuga Naija Season Was the Best?
I just feel there are so many ways Shuga Season 6 could have ended, and the way it actually did was not one of them. Oh well, I’m no screenwriter, right? Life goeth on. With my disappointments, I’ve been led to ask out loud which MTV Shuga Naija season was the best. Let’s have a short overview of each:
Shuga Season 3
Shuga Series 3 was the first Shuga series set in Nigeria. It featured some of the characters we see today – Tobi, Princess & Weki. It also had some faces such as Tiwa Savage, who played Weki’s mum. I loved this season because the stories were so wonderfully interwoven. There wasn’t as much concentration on the secondary school, but it made so much sense! It centred around betrayal and the effects of living a wild lifestyle.
My favourite character had to be Sophie, who was Princess’ sister. Sophie was a queen bee and a runs girl who slept with affluent older men to get her money up. She was hilarious in every way, though she was a backstabber who slept with her friends’ man. Another close favourite was Malaika – my goodness, that woman is beautiful! Her story with her psychopath husband Nii was so anger-inducing! Also, who could forget the iconic solidarity scene for Weki? The final episode was a banger and left our hearts doing boom boom.
Shuga Season 4
This was basically a continuation from Shuga Season 3, but there was more of a focus in the secondary school area. We had more HIV-related issues come to light, plus we saw the full birth of Tobi the demon. We also experienced the awesome love story between Weki and Leila! Sheila (Adesua Etomi) & Femi went through their struggles and created awareness for HIV – it was another awesome Shuga season! It also ended very well!
Personally, I liked Season 3 the most out of Season 3, 4 and 6. It was just so iconic – Sophie made it iconic. The different story lines were on point! I wish I could recap both seasons 3 and 4, but you can always go watch them if you haven’t! What do you think is the best Shuga Naija season so far?
